It was 11th
June 2003 when Steve & Val took over Cawston
Post Office.
This is there second shop and the first
freehold unit they have owned.
Having spent years working for various
companies Steve in sales from his early twenty's and Val working as a
secretary they decided in 1999 perhaps it was time to work for themselves.
In June 2000 they took over Great
Chesterford Post Office a small leasehold shop in the most northerly village
in Essex.
After taking the turnover of this shop from
£2000 per week to over £8000 per week they felt it was time to put into
practice all they had learned about retailing into a and larger unit.
This is how they decided to purchase Cawston
Post Office.
When they first viewed the shop it was in
desperate need of modernising and this could have phased some people however
the potential was there to turn the shop into one of Norfolk's
premium village store's.
Even though the shop offered a large range
of produce when they arrived the price structure was totally out of sink.
Therefore they set about reducing 98% of the price's bringing them into line
with other retail outlets and much more competitive. This led to an
immediate increase in trade. Also they introduced Londis into
the store allowing them to offer the local community the support of one of
the most progressive wholesalers in the U.K.
With this came such things as special offers
every three weeks supported by leaflet drops throughout the area and a price
structuring that allows the community to experience true value for money.
